The orchid is an  exotic plant  with a unique beauty. But for it to bloom well, you must not forget to take care  of its aerial roots and leaves  especially when spring approaches. How can you help your plant to bloom better? What  fertilizer  should you use to fertilize it, and how should you use it?

Fertilizer for your orchids: how to choose?

Many people think that when orchids do not produce flowers, they are dead. However, this is not the case. Like most  plant species , the orchid needs a  period of vegetative dormancy  during which it does not produce buds. This period generally occurs during the winter.

If you continue  to fertilize your plant  during this period, you may harm its physiology, so be patient. As spring approaches, it is time for your plant to wake up. As it becomes more vigorous, you can give it  a hand to speed up flowering .

From the end of January, you can start fertilizing your orchid. The sign is usually found at the junction of the last mature leaf. If you see it emerging from the stems, it means your orchid is in  vegetative growth .

Your orchid is now awake and it is the right time to fertilize the soil and enrich it with the  necessary nutrients . In this case, you should use a fertilizer rich in phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen.

For flowering, phosphorus, potassium and other ferrous elements present in generic fertilizers are very useful. If you buy the fertilizer on the market, it is advisable to dilute it in a previously moistened substrate to encourage the roots of the nutrients.

Prepare your own fertilizers

You can prepare your own fertilizers  to fertilize your orchids  .

Dilute  3 tablespoons of brewer’s yeast in 10 liters of water  and use this liquid to water your orchid. Yeast is particularly suitable for promoting flowering. Use nitrogen to invigorate the leaves and stems. Coffee grounds are certainly one of the richest products in nitrogen.

To do this,  air-dry the coffee grounds  and sprinkle them on the soil of your plants. Do this once a month. Also, place your orchid in a place that receives plenty of indirect light. Orchids appreciate  dim light  in order to flower properly. Then, water their aerial roots with  non-calcareous water  every day to avoid stagnation and drying out of the soil.
