Where to cut to make pelargonium cuttings?
To make cuttings, first choose a sturdy, unspoiled geranium;
Then, cut a 10 to 20 cm long stem with a pruner. Your shears must of course be disinfected and the cut must be made over a knot. The latter indicates the point of attachment or intersection of a leaf on a stem;
The stem taken and which will serve as cuttings must bear a maximum of 5 leaves. Do not keep the large leaves that are towards the base, and remove the buds as well, as they may weaken the future plant. A button is a small body that evolves to give rise to a flower, stem, or leaf.

How to take perennial geranium cuttings from a stem?
After harvesting the stem, here are the steps to get a new geranium plant.
- Apply rooting hormone to the stem. To do this, soak the end of the stem in water, before dipping it into the sachet containing the rooting hormone. The water allows the powder to adhere easily to the cut. Lightly tap the stem to remove the excess. Rooting hormone, chemical or natural, is effective for cuttings. This is used for:
- Promote the healing of cuttings
- Promote the development of new roots and accelerate rooting
- prevent the development of diseases

- After applying rooting hormone, take a bucket and fill it with a special root soil, or prepare your soil by mixing peat soil with sand. Avoid using a plastic bucket, so you can place the pot directly into the soil when transplanting. A biodegradable cup is therefore preferable.
- Then water the soil;
- Wait for the soil to absorb the water well, then drill a hole in the center;
- Plant the stem and pound the ground;
- All you need to do is place your pot in partial shade. Exposure to direct sunlight can dry out your plant. Don’t forget to water your plant regularly.
It should be noted that to obtain abundant geraniums, you can plant up to 3 cuttings in the same pot, as long as they are large.
