There is a method to have a lush poinsettia and multiply it using its leaves making it bloom for months. Here’s how to do it.

At Christmas, there is a plant that spreads exponentially to such an extent that it even becomes a floral gift to give to a family member or a person to whom we want to show our gratitude.

This is the Christmas star  , also known as poinsettia but whose real name is  Euphorbia pulcherrima  and is characterized by its large flowers and red color, although it can also be found in the white variant.

Poinsettia: how to multiply it infinitely

This plant evokes, due to its main color, red and green, Christmas, which is why it is used to represent the festive season and brighten our homes.

Both its leaves and flowers  are milky and it is often discouraged to let animals get close to this plant due to the toxic function it can have on the organism of our four-legged friends.

This ornamental plant is also used at other times of the year and is usually very expensive, although cheap versions can also be found in supermarkets.

However, not everyone knows that there is a method to multiply it indefinitely using its leaves and keep it healthy and lush even in the hottest months of the year, when temperatures reach peaks that are not ideal for its growth.

The procedure

To proceed, we have to gently peel off a leaf from our Christmas star  and with a cutter remove the spike  so that only the leaf remains from which we will remove the stem from the back.

To do this, we use a cutter  and, being careful not to cut ourselves, we proceed to file the underside of the leaf  on the side of the petiole that will be completely eliminated.

Once this is done, we take a clove of garlic or rub it on the part that we have removed, that is, the underside of the leaf so that it can absorb the garlic well.

After this, we take a beet  and cut it into slices and after having some slices we place them on top of some soil, placing the leaves on top and then we cover everything with more soil.

We water regularly and after  30 days  we will see what has happened. The leaves of the Christmas star will have developed roots and we will insert the leaf, placing the roots underneath, into the soil.

Once this is done, water it periodically and you will see that little by little the first glimpse of a Christmas star begins to appear until it grows with lush and colorful flowers.

This method serves to multiply our plant infinitely and we can do it many months in advance, so that we will have  poinsettias  grown by us, which we can give as gifts during the holidays.

Other types of plants can also be propagated with this method, although not all of them use red beets.
