Sansevieria trifasciata (also known as Dracaena trifasciata) is one of the most widespread and appreciated houseplants, especially for its extraordinary resistance to any weather or humidity conditions.

In fact, this plant can last for several years in any corner of the house, regardless of the amount of light or water it receives.

The story changes, however, if you want to make Sansevieria flourish. This plant blooms only under certain conditions, and it can really put on a show.

Getting sansevieria to bloom is difficult, but certainly not impossible. You just have to try to reproduce the climatic conditions of their natural habitat, and here’s how to do it.

Irrigation

Sansevieria is not watered daily, as it is prone to rot. Water sparingly and only when the soil is completely dry.

During the winter, water only a couple of times a month, no more.

Light

The ideal position for a sansevieria plant is near a well-lit window, so that its leaves develop healthy and strong and have a very green color.

Sansevieria’s growth is slow and will only produce 3 or 4 leaves per year. If the leaves are bent, it’s a sign that the plant needs more light.

Pruning

Fertilizer

Apply some fertilizer in late spring and early summer, once a month, until fall arrives.
