Planting your own aromatic plants at home has become a big trend lately. But we can’t complain about that, because it’s beyond amazing! Imagine having a refreshing mojito when you get home from work. Or a fresh homemade lemonade on hot summer days. Well, it’s possible. All you need to do is plant mint in your house. In a cup, pot, bottle or in water, here are some surprising ways to grow your own crop.
Plant mint in a cup
This method has several positive aspects. In addition to its use in cooking, mint in a cup is also useful as an interior decoration. Simply choose a single container in color that matches the furniture in the room. Don’t forget to pierce it at the bottom to ensure good drainage for the plant. To do this, use a drill.
Plant mint seeds
If you want to enhance your interior with a cup of herbs, it is best to plant them from seed. Here’s how to do it:
- Put soil in the cup or a pot. This herb prefers a pH of 6.5 to 7.
- Moisten it with a little water and place the seeds in it.
- Cover them with an inch of soil.
- Keep the soil moist with an ideal temperature of 20 o C.
- Potted mint grows best when fertilized monthly during the growing season with a liquid fertilizer.
If you take good care of it, peppermint will reach a height of 30 cm.
Plant mint in the ground
Once the last frost has passed, you can plant your seeds directly in your garden. They will grow in a week or two. When they have three or four true leaves, thin the seedlings to 40 to 50 cm apart. Mint multiplies by roots that spread horizontally, so it needs space. Keep in mind that they can be invasive, so if you don’t want a garden full of mint, you should prune them from time to time. The safest way is, of course, to plant the grass in a container.

Here is an amazing way to decorate your balcony. All you need to do is plant your green herb in a plastic bottle. First, it’s eco-friendly because you reuse old bottles instead of throwing them away. So, once you’ve chosen your recipient, poke several holes in it. Then, fill it with soil and plant the mint cuttings. In short, just put a sprig of mint in each hole. Remove its leaves, except for the top ones, as shown in the first photo above. In a few days you will have this beautiful garden. Pick the bottom leaves and let them grow again.

If you’re interested in soilless planting, try this innovative method that is becoming increasingly popular, especially among city gardeners. You only need a hydrophonic system. You can buy one online, but you can also create one with recycling materials. You need two containers, one for the water and one for the plant. The glass where you will place your mint must be cut so that the roots can reach the water. So make long cuts, not small holes like in the previous paragraph.
Again, you need to remove the leaves from the base of the cuttings. There should be no leaves in the water, just the cut. For best results, mix tap water with rainwater, as the latter contains more minerals.
