Tomato manure, a natural fertilizer with multiple virtues

1. Washing the leaves  : Tomato leaves should be washed well before use, to remove any traces of pesticides or contamination. To do this, just run them under running water.
2. Cut the leaves  : To facilitate fermentation, cut the leaves into medium pieces with a knife or pruning shears.
3. Fermentation  : Place the cut leaves in a large container (bucket, tank, can, etc.), compressing them slightly. Then fill the container with rainwater or non-chlorinated water, at a rate of about 10 liters of water per 1 kg of leaves. Mix everything well and cover the container with a cloth or a perforated lid, to allow the preparation to breathe, protecting it from insects.
4. Fermentation  : Let the preparation ferment for about 10 to 15 days, stirring regularly (every 2 to 3 days). Fermentation will be complete when the preparation has a characteristic (quite unpleasant) smell and the bubbles have disappeared.
5. Filtration and conservation  : Filter the tomato manure through a strainer or a fine cloth, in order to recover the liquid. Store in airtight bottles or containers, protected from light and heat. The tomato manure obtained in this way can be preserved for several months.

Using Tomato Manure for a Healthy Garden

Tomato manure is a versatile fertilizer that can be used on many garden plants, such as vegetables, flowers, shrubs and fruit trees.

Here are some tips to get the most out of this valuable natural fertilizer:

• Irrigation  : Dilute the liquid tomato in rainwater or non-chlorinated water, at a rate of one dose of liquid liquid per 10 to 20 doses of water (that is, a dose of approximately 5 to 10%). Then water the base of the plants generously, being careful not to wet the foliage. Watering with tomato puree can be done once or twice a month, depending on the needs of the plants.
• Spraying  : To fight diseases and parasites, you can also spray slightly diluted tomato manure (about 5%) directly on the foliage of the plants. This application creates a protective and repellent barrier, while providing nutrients directly assimilated by the leaves.
• Basal fertilizer  : Tomato manure can also be used as a basal fertilizer when planting or transplanting plants. To do this, mix a dose of tomato manure with 3 or 4 doses of potting soil or compost, and incorporate this mixture into the planting soil.
