How to infinitely have a new Jade Tree seedling with just one Twig

Very hardy and with a particular look, this plant can have different dimensions : it can be very small, so much so that it can also be kept on a desk or on a small tall piece of furniture, or it can be very large and kept on a large balcony pots. A lot depends on how much space you give them to grow!

But did you know that, if you already have one of these seedlings, you can multiply it by getting a new Jade Tree plant ? All you need is a small twig. Let’s see how to do it.

Cut off a twig

First of all, it is important that the main plant is mature and healthy.

After having checked this, taking a look at the state of the leaves, choose a twig, or rather a stem, and cut it with the help of garden shears.

NB: Before using them, remember to sterilize the scissors.

The branch you will get is called a cutting and must have some characteristics. First, it should be at least 7-10 cm long. Also, you should have joints for the leaves: this is where the stem will produce new leaflets.

Let it dry

Now it’s time to let the cut dry out a bit to prevent infections or other problems from developing.

Put the cut stem outdoors for a few days, so the cut can heal. You will notice that the base tends to harden and darken: this is an absolutely normal phenomenon.

A trick? You can pass the base of the stem with a little cinnamon powder: this substance, in addition to reducing the risk of infections, is a stimulant for the birth and development of new roots.

Choose the Right Potting Soil

Before burying the twig in a new vase, we must choose the right soil.

Unfortunately, universal soil is not very suitable as it is too heavy to allow new roots to develop.

The advice is to use a mixture of peat, sand, a little compost and perlite. Alternatively, you can go to the nursery and buy some ready-made succulent soil.

The important thing is that the soil in which we will put the cutting is very draining, that is, that it does not retain too much water, thus avoiding stagnation.

Warning: If you have doubts about how to do it and are afraid of making a mistake, ask a professional for advice.

Buried

After putting the soil in a vase (even a small vase will be fine for a cut), poke a small hole in the center of the soil with your finger and bury the twig so that it is straight.

Then, water the soil by moistening it, but not wetting it.

How to care for it

Now all that remains is to wait for the roots to sprout from the twig.

For this to happen, it is essential that you take good care of it. Place it in a place where there is a good daily dose of indirect sunlight, avoiding exposing it to direct sunlight.

The bottle can be stored both at home and outdoors, the important thing is that it is exposed to a fairly constant temperature of no less than 15 and no more than 24 °C.
