The result of these actions leads us to have a blockage that needs to be unblocked.
But what exactly should not be thrown down the sink? In this article we have compiled a list of waste that absolutely should not end up in the sink, thus avoiding unpleasant surprises.
What waste doesn’t go down the sink
Exhausted oil:
Perhaps the most important of all is absolutely not throwing down the sink. The oil used for frying must be recovered in an old bottle of oil, or in a simple canister, either glass or plastic, and must be delivered to the eco-friendly island. In the meantime, it will be enough to keep the can under the sink to have it at hand to throw the oil and avoid unpleasant discomfort in the sink.
Ground coffee: Many people empty the coffee maker into the sink, but it’s not good at all, because coffee can cause a clog in the pipes. Alternatively, we can use ground coffee as a plant fertilizer!
Flour: if you also like to prepare pastries, you already know what happens when you mix water and flour. The same happens when the latter falls by mistake into the sink. In contact with water it will create a glue that sticks to the pipes and could cause clogs.
Pasta and rice: these two ingredients, in contact with water, swell and clog the pipes. And immediately nothing will go down the sink drain.
Miscellaneous seeds: Even fruit and vegetable seeds should be thrown away in the organic trash.
Fruit and vegetable threads: from celery, pineapple, artichokes and other foods that are made up of long threads that, over time, can clog the sink. These should also be discarded.
Eggshells: many times they are just small pieces that end up in the drain, but if they are not the only ones, we will unintentionally create a blockage.
Stickers and paper: these must be thrown in the trash because, in the sink, they could stick to the pipes and clog them. We are very careful! Such a traffic jam is very serious.
Keep the sink and drain clean
In order not to block the sink by mistake, just be careful not to throw away the aforementioned debris. We can also buy one of those small filters to place over the sink hole, and very easy to remove and clean.
These filters can stop dirt before it goes down the drain!
In the event that there is already a blockage, what we can do is pour a few tablespoons of baking soda, boiling water, a glass of hot vinegar down the drain. The three ingredients, in contact, will form a foam with a remarkable cleaning power capable of unclogging the sink in the event that the obstruction is not serious.
