The washing machine is a fundamental appliance that helps us take care of our clothes without any effort: after all, we only have to add the clothes, detergent and softener, and the appliance will take care of the rest.
However, wash after wash, colored clothes can lose their original hue. Therefore, it is better to be aware of the tricks to brighten up the colors of your clothes and keep them smelling good!
Shiny garments with bay leaves
Colored clothes fade in the washing machine, especially if you don’t use the right water temperature, but there’s no need to throw them away when we can fix the problem cheaply and effectively. It’s bay leaves in the washing machine.
This trick is unbeatable to brighten up colors. Laurel, thanks to its properties, makes garments that have lost their tone shine. All you need are some bay leaves, among other very inexpensive things, baking soda and boiling water. We combine these ingredients to form the miracle mixture.
Before washing in the washing machine, boil 10 bay leaves, 4 tablespoons of baking soda, and water. They must boil for about twenty minutes, so that their properties are released in the water. After the time, let the water cool and pour the mixture into a bowl. Clothes can be added and left to soak for up to 24 hours, and then rinsed one by one.
Finally, they should be added to washing in the washing machine or by hand. You will see how, thanks to the properties of laurel, the clothes will have recovered their colours! Bay leaves can also be used in the washing machine for the same result.
Revive the colors with apple cider vinegar
There are other ingredients to be able to revitalize the color of clothes, and again these are products that are already at home or easily available in the supermarket. Apple cider vinegar is used less than white cider vinegar, but it’s perfect for fixing the problem of faded colors. Just follow the same process we talked about with bay leaf, with a cup full of vinegar.
Salt is another excellent ally for colored garments. In this case we have to add half a glass in a container with water and immerse the clothes, leaving them to soak for a whole day. Then rinse them and a second wash is carried out in the washing machine or by hand.
Essential oils to perfume your laundry
Do freshly washed garments not smell? One of the reasons may be related to the washing machine. It may not be clean: Check that there is no mold inside and that the door is left open for a few minutes after each wash so that excess moisture can escape. In case the appliance is kept in excellent condition, simply add a few drops of essential oil of our choice to the clothes to perfume the laundry after each wash.
