HOW MUCH LIGHT DO GERANIUMS NEED?

Geranium is a plant that needs a lot of light. Ideally, it should receive several hours of direct light a day, this will also enhance its flowering. Obviously you should avoid exposing this plant to direct sun during the hottest hours of the day. Ideally, they should be placed in semi-shaded areas.

HOW SHOULD GERANIUMS BE GOVERNED?

Light care is important, but so is watering geraniums. The most important thing is not to overwater. The trick to knowing how much water our geraniums need is to check that the soil is slightly moist. However, it is important to avoid oversaturating the plant with water and, after watering, remove any remaining water from the pot below, as this can lead to root rot and death of the plant.

WHAT IS THE BEST FERTILIZER FOR GERANIUMS?

Geraniums are usually placed in pots of about 30-40 centimeters in diameter. In this case, it is recommended to plant them in the spring-summer season.

As for fertilizer, for this type of plant we can choose between solids and liquids. Ideally, you should start applying it in early spring, although it can also be done during the summer, once a month. Here are some of the types of fertilizers recommended for geraniums:

• Organic fertilizers. For geraniums you can use anything: fertilizer, humus, guano, manure… Just add a handful per plant and mix it with a little more potting soil.
• Fertilizers (chemical fertilizers). They are used to make geraniums bloom.It is advisable to use one for each plant, and that it is especially specific for geraniums. It is important to always read the label of each fertilizer carefully to know how many doses to apply.
  HOW AND WHEN TO PRUNE GERANIUMS?Geraniums are generally pruned in autumn, although in summer to promote subsequent flowering we must remove dry leaves and wilted flowers. In autumn we can do general pruning, although it will always depend on the growth of the geranium. For this we recommend cutting the thinnest and weakest branches directly from the base. We should only leave the side branches stronger. About five days after pruning, new branches will appear, and then flowers.WHAT TO DO TO MAKE GERANIUMS BLOOM?

Geraniums can live 40 years or more if we take proper care of them. For geraniums to bloom properly, they need many hours of light. Therefore, if you have a very bright balcony, take the opportunity to plant your geraniums in that corner. During the afternoon make sure they have some shade to avoid overexposure to the sun. The ideal temperature for this type of plant is between 18 and 20 ºC.

WHY ARE THERE GERANIUMS THAT DO NOT BLOOM?

If your geraniums don’t bloom, the most likely cause is a lack of sunlight, too much fertilizer, or very cold temperatures. Also due to parasites, geraniums may not bloom. The most appropriate, and if the plant is infected, is to spray the geraniums with a solution of fertilizer diluted in water, at least once a week.
