What should you do before buying your plant at the florist?

The act of purchasing houseplants is quick and easy. However, it is advisable to follow a series of recommendations before purchasing them, especially finding the ideal place in the house to place them. In particular, direct sunlight should be avoided.

When you go to a florist, you look at the number of leaves on each flower and you miss some aspects that can indicate whether the plant is healthy or not. Although sellers are often experts in plant care, they should not always be trusted when purchasing.

Pay attention to the condition of the plants yourself. Find out what signs you should never ignore when buying plants. There are a few details that will show you right away that the flowers won’t last.

To avoid situations where the plant withers quickly after purchase, consider the following recommendations. First, always avoid plants that display cobwebs.

If it has cobwebs, it is an indication that the plant is probably already used to growing in that environment, i.e., infested with spiders. It is one of the most difficult plant pests to control without the help of a very powerful insecticide. If you buy such a plant, other flowers in the  garden  or house may also be affected.

Avoid buying these types of plants at the florist

If you notice something moving on or on the floor of the  plant , avoid buying it. The flower may have mites, which can affect the plants. Additionally, mites provide a perfect environment for fungal growth, which is not an advantage for potted plants.

Also, if flowers from the garden center or florist have dark spots on the leaves, be careful. When these spots are particularly numerous, it could indicate that the plant is suffering from a fungal infection.

If the flowers show white spots on the leaves, on the surface, they may show a sign of cotton plant infestation. In these cases, follow the base of the plant. If you detect a sulfurous smell or stagnant water, it is likely that the plant has entered the decomposition phase.
