Surely you have wondered why the bananas we buy at the grocery store turn black so quickly. No wonder they turn black after just two days of storage.
But with this method, you can keep them fresh and delicious for up to a month without fading or blackening. Pay attention to the following video made by Mr Smart, who will teach you this method:
The owner of the greengrocer has been keeping a valuable secret that will change the way we preserve our bananas! Below, we tell you the step by step of this trick.
Steps to preserve fresh bananas
- Proper washing: In a container larger than bananas, add a set amount of water. Wash them properly to remove any residue of pesticides or ripening agents.
- Disinfection and sterilization: Add 2 tablespoons of table salt to the water to disinfect and sterilize the bananas. Then, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to remove any residual dirt and pesticides. Stir the alkaline liquid evenly.
- Thorough cleaning: Place the banana in the water and wash it. Clean the inside as much as possible. If possible, let it soak for 2 minutes before cleaning it. Use a paper towel or towel to dry them very well.
- Wrapping with cling film: Wrap the base of the bananas with a piece of cling film. This will help slow the ripening process by preventing the release of “ethylene” gas from the roots of the bananas.
- Hanging or upside down: Find a string or cord to hang the bananas on, or simply place it upside down. This will help increase the banana’s stress points and prevent it from being easily damaged.
- Avoid freezing and separating fruits: Avoid storing bananas and apples together, as they both emit “ethylene” gas. Also, be careful with frostbite, as it can damage the banana skin and cause black spots to form.
By following these simple steps, you can enjoy fresh and delicious bananas for a much longer period. Put a twist on the way you preserve them and be amazed at how easy it is to keep them in their best condition!
