Indeed, the cold can be one of your great enemies. For this reason, it is advisable to know in depth the care of succulent plants in winter. A way to avoid unpleasant inconveniences but, above all, to keep them alive and with frequent blooms even in winter.

But if you know the right tricks, you could enjoy a beautiful winter bloom.

Cacti Filled With Endless Flowers Naturally

The cactus is a succulent plant, that is, a tropical plant native to Brazil, where its growth develops in a warm, humid and tropical climate. The ideal temperature for this type of plant should be between 15 and 23 degrees and with exposure to light, but indirect.

When you live in a place that has mild winters that are not very harsh, it is possible to let it live outside, taking care to keep it warm in the coldest period, so as not to expose it to possible frost.

Even at Christmas you have to treat the cactus as what it is: a tropical plant, after having watered it you have to let the water dry completely. Any water stagnation could cause the roots to rot.

Only if we are in the presence of a particularly damp house, it will be advisable to place a plate with water and pebbles under the vase. Once the water has evaporated, it will ensure that the plant absorbs the moisture it needs.

How to get infinite flowers? The natural method

When they are in their natural environment, i.e. in the ground, they prefer the soil most suitable for succulent plants, so that they can drain well.

As a fertilizer, sugar can help feed the succulent plant by increasing its well-being, i.e. by dissolving a little sugar in water to water the plants.

However, the proper period for fertilization ends with the flowering period. Cactus flowers at Christmas open after a dormant period of about four weeks.

This process can be made easier by providing the plant with the elements it needs to thrive: longer, cooler nights.

Keep the plant in the dark for about 12-14 hours a day. If you don’t have a dark place to place it, you can cover the Christmas cactus with a box or a clean cloth.

After that, the Christmas cactus plant will start producing buds, and you can put it back where it was before.

Since Christmas cacti tend to lose their buds if handled too much, they should be kept away from heat sources such as radiators and watered regularly.

Once the plant has gone through a resting period, it will produce beautiful flowers every year.
