Having a house full of plants is a real obsession for many of us, but keeping them healthy and lush is a challenge. To treat plants successfully and make them bloom abundantly, we explain how to prepare “enriched” irrigation water.
It may happen that our plants stop growing or show signs of suffering, such as yellowing of the leaves or a general weak appearance. Fortunately, there are natural ingredients whose nutrients such as vitamins and minerals can help us recover our plants.
Each plant has different watering needs: some adapt to fairly long dry periods, others need consistently moist soil. However, all plants need nutrients.
Although there are all kinds of fertilizers on the market, even liquids, one way to feed our plants on a daily basis is through irrigation water. Here’s how to enrich it with nutrients.
Need:
- banana peels
- Cooking water from vegetables, pasta, or eggs (no salt, sugar, or other seasonings)
- Hermetically sealed container
After cooking your food (pasta, vegetables, or eggs), drain it and save the water and let it cool.
Pour the cooking water into the zip-top container and add the banana peels cut into chunks, then close the container.
You can keep it airtight for two days, after which you should discard it to prevent the liquid from stagnating.
Dilute it with pure water and use the liquid to water your plants at least once a week.
The cooking water of pasta, vegetables or eggs contains nutrients that are very useful for plants. The potassium released by banana peels will give our plants an extra boost during flowering.
