Lemon peels are rich in properties: do you know what happens if you put them in oil? An ancient remedy that you will never stop using.

Lemon peels should never be thrown away. In fact, they can be used in the kitchen and beyond.
Highly appreciated on a culinary level, lemon peels can enrich desserts, such as those typical of the Amalfi tradition, or prepare tasty liqueurs such as limoncello. They can lend themselves to the creation, for example, of completely natural remedies that are finding a foothold not only in Italy. Let’s look at one.
Lemon peels in oil: an ancient remedy
Lemon peels can also be used to create an oil, called oleolite. It is a completely natural remedy that serves to give vitality to the body but also unparalleled well-being.
In particular, oleolite has its origin in ancient times and can be prepared not only with lemon peel but using different vegetables to add to a vegetable oil. The lemon peels are left to macerate in the oil. In this way, the benefits of the oils contained in the skins (or in the plants you decide to leave to macerate) are used, combined with the moisturizing and preservative power of extra virgin olive oil.
In fact, the oil fulfils a dissolving function, capable of dissolving all the fat-soluble substances of which plants are rich. Extraction can take place when these elements are cold macerated.
The properties of lemon and its aromas are combined with the mixture of antioxidant substances contained in extra virgin olive oil, notoriously high in polyphenols.
The benefits that oil brings to our body can be many. In fact, it can be used as a tonic, it can stimulate venous return. In addition, when used as a massage oil on wet extremities, circulation is reactivated.

How to prepare lemon oil: procedure and tips
Lemon oil can be thought of as a massage oil with different functions, salt can also be mixed to create an exfoliant. It can also refresh the eye contour, lightening dark circles and bags under the eyes, by allowing microcirculation. The look and face will have lighter lines and a fresher appearance.
To prepare it you will need:
- lemon peel in the amount of 100 grams
- EVO oil, in the quantity of 100 grams
As a general rule, lemon peels should be exactly half the amount of oil, in proportion. The lemons must be cut very thinly, the skins must be preserved and the white part removed. The skins should be left to dry for about two days in the air or, better yet, in the sun.
The oil should be half of the peels obtained. The indicated dosage is an example of preparation. If you want to increase the quantities, you should always take into account the proportion of the two ingredients. Drying prevents mould from forming. The lemon peels will then be placed in a previously sterilized glass container. At this point, you will pour in the oil that should completely cover the skins. The jar will be shaken often so that the skins are always covered by the oil.

The bottle should be stored in a cool, dark place for one month. Subsequently, the contents will be filtered, the peels will be discarded and the rest of the contents will be stored in a very clean glass container.
