With simple measures, you can prevent ice from forming in your freezer. Thawing regularly, storing food properly, and avoiding leaving the door open help minimize ice buildup.

A well-maintained freezer saves energy and keeps food fresher longer. Let’s get to work!
Ingredients
- 1 bowl of hot water
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 spray bottle
- Wooden sushi chopsticks (or similar tool that won’t damage the surface)
- Hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide)
- Baking soda
- Chlorhexidine (optional for disinfection)
- Glycerine
Preparation
- Defrosting the freezer
- Turn off the freezer and remove all food.
- Place a bowl of hot water inside the freezer to speed up the defrosting process.
- Preparation of the saline solution
- Dissolve 2 tablespoons of salt in 1 tablespoon of water.
- Pour the solution into a spray bottle.
- Ice removal
- Spray the saline solution evenly on the walls of the freezer.
- Wait a few minutes until the ice begins to melt.
- Use wooden sushi sticks or a similar tool to remove ice without damaging the surface.
- Cleaning the freezer
- Mix hydrogen peroxide with baking soda to clean and whiten the inside of the freezer without damaging it.
- Disinfection (optional)
- If you store meat in the freezer, disinfect plastic surfaces with chlorhexidine.
- Let dry completely before using the freezer again.
- Preventing future ice build-up
- Once dry, apply a thin layer of glycerin to plastic surfaces to reduce ice buildup in the future.
Additional tips:
- Keep the freezer door closed as long as possible to prevent moisture from entering.
- Do not place hot food inside the freezer, as the steam generated can cause ice to form.
- Organize food correctly to improve air circulation and prevent ice from accumulating in certain areas.
- Repeat this process at least once or twice a year for optimal maintenance.
With these simple steps, you can improve the efficiency and lifespan of your freezer and prevent unwanted ice buildup.
