Materials Needed
- 4 plastic caps (from soda bottles)
- Metal structure of an old lamp (preferably with an articulated arm)
- Coaxial cable
- Recovered electrical cables (from chargers, appliances, etc.)
- Insulating tape
- Pliers, wire strippers, scissors, screwdriver
- Non-metallic base (can be wood, hard cardboard, or plastic)
- Punch or punch
Procedure
- Prepare the caps: make a small hole in the center of each one with a hot punch or perforator. These will serve as connection points between the cables.
- Build the collection system: I joined two caps by cable, creating a pair. He does the same with the other two. Then connect the ends of the coaxial cable: the center conductor to one pair of caps, and the metal mesh to the other pair.
- Fixation on the lamp: use the metal structure of the lamp as a support. Glue or attach each pair of caps to the ends of the arm, maintaining some separation between them.
- Insulate connections well: Make sure there is no direct contact between the driver and the mesh. Use electrical tape to avoid interference.
- Connect to your TV: Plug the coaxial cable into your TV’s antenna input, perform channel scanning, and adjust the antenna position based on the signal.
Creative Tips to Improve Signal and Stability:
- Raise the antenna: Place it on a shelf or near a window for better reception.
- Use a homemade reflector: behind the caps, you can put an aluminum tray or metallic foil to concentrate the signal.
- Add a metal cross: If you have wire available, put a cross on top of the lamp for reinforcement.
- Direction test: Rotate and orient the lamp as if it were a professional antenna. Each movement can pick up a different channel.
- I added a kill switch: if you want a more sophisticated design, you can add a switch between the wires to manually turn the signal on or off.
