Sleeping in a clean bed not only provides comfort, but it is also vital for our health. Bedding accumulates sweat, bacteria, dead skin and mites that can affect our skin, respiratory system and general well-being.
Therefore, following a proper washing routine is essential to maintain a hygienic and comfortable environment in the home.
Sheets
Every week
Sheets are in direct contact with our body for several hours a day, so they accumulate sweat, body oils and dead cells. Washing them weekly helps prevent allergies, skin irritations and the proliferation of dust mites.
Towels
Every 3 days
Although used to dry a clean body, towels retain moisture that promotes the growth of bacteria and fungi. Washing them every three days is ideal to avoid bad odors and maintain good hygiene.
Drapes
Every 6 months
The curtains accumulate dust, smoke and odors from the environment, even if they do not look dirty. A semi-annual wash prevents allergies and keeps the home fresher and healthier.
Pillows
Every 6 months
Although we use covers, pillows absorb sweat, saliva, and residue from hair or facial products. Washing them twice a year helps to extend their shelf life and reduce the presence of bacteria and mites.
Best way to wash them and tips
- Sheets and towels: Wash with hot water (60°C) to remove bacteria and mites. Use mild detergent and avoid excess fabric softener, as it reduces the absorption of towels.
- Drapes: Check the label. Many can be washed in a washing machine with a delicate cycle and cold water. Air dry to prevent shrinkage.
- Pillows: Check if they are suitable for washing machines. Use a gentle cycle with warm water and spin twice to remove excess moisture. Dry thoroughly, preferably in the sun, or with dryer balls to maintain its shape.
- General tips: Wash separately, don’t overload the washing machine, and use hypoallergenic products if you have sensitive skin or allergies.
Maintaining a frequent and proper washing routine not only extends the life of your home textiles, but also improves your health and sleep quality.
