Materials
- A branch with a small bud in the middle
- A knife
- Garlic
- Construction Sand
- Spray bottle with water
- Topsoil
Procedure
- Preparation of the branch: Make sure that the branch you choose has a small bud in the middle. Then, using the knife, remove small splinters from both ends of the branch. These chips allow the branch to hydrate properly during watering.
- Disinfection: To prevent any type of infection and ensure the success of rooting, rub garlic on the cut part of the branch, acting as a powerful natural disinfectant.
- Initial planting: Use construction sand to plant the branch. The orientation should be such that the sprout is facing upwards and the splinters are facing downwards. Once the branch is positioned, water the sand well using a spray bottle. Make sure to keep the sand moist and place the branch in a shady spot.
- Development and care: Wait about 30 days. After this period, carefully remove the branch from the sand. The roots should have formed. If you need help removing it, you can use a stick, but do it carefully so as not to damage the new seedling.
- Transplant: Once you’ve verified that the branch has rooted correctly, it’s time to move it to topsoil. You can use soil from your own garden. When planting, it is essential to handle the roots carefully to avoid damaging them. Fill with more soil around the branch.
- Aftercare: For the first few weeks, it is recommended that the seedling only receives morning sun. As it grows and gets stronger, it can be exposed to the sun longer. Regarding watering, alternate the days: one day you water, the next you don’t.
