Geraniums<\/strong> are among the most popular and sought-after plants. If they are cared for properly, they give us beautiful and very colorful flowers. You\u2019ve probably seen balconies full of geraniums in bloom, perhaps wondering why your geranium plant doesn\u2019t bloom the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most common reasons geraniums stop blooming is their exposure to very cold, frosty, or windy temperatures. Geraniums should be protected by placing them indoors during colder days. But this isn\u2019t the only trigger for geraniums not blooming: we\u2019ve<\/strong> listed a few tricks below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Put them in an area with light.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

These beautiful plants can\u2019t bloom unless they have the right amount of natural light, i.e., sunlight. The artificial light in the house is not intense enough to stimulate the growth of geraniums. But be careful: don\u2019t place geraniums in direct sunlight if they are in a shady environment, they could undergo drastic changes and die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, it\u2019s important to know that geraniums can also bloom in low light (not full shade), so don\u2019t be discouraged if you live in an apartment that isn\u2019t adequately exposed to the sun\u2019s rays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give the plant adequate space to grow.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When we buy a geranium plant and bring it home, we should assume that it has been in the same pot for a long time. Precisely for this reason, the plant should be transplanted into a larger pot, to give the roots adequate space and the possibility of obtaining nutrients from a larger amount of soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they grow, the plants need to be transplanted into larger pots, otherwise the plant will not bloom or even die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fertiliza tus geranios<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Si tus geranios se plantan en macetas, se recomienda abonarlos en primavera y verano. Una vez que hayan alcanzado su tama\u00f1o m\u00e1ximo (los geranios son plantas relativamente peque\u00f1as), ya no ser\u00e1 necesario trasplantarlos y es precisamente por ello que necesitan fertilizaci\u00f3n, que puede ser:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Fertilizantes qu\u00edmicos<\/strong> : para hacer florecer tus geranios puedes optar por fertilizantes producidos espec\u00edficamente para este tipo de plantas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Regar solo cuando realmente se necesita<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Puede parecer un consejo gen\u00e9rico, pero dar la cantidad adecuada de agua a la planta de geranio es fundamental para su floraci\u00f3n. Controlar la frecuencia de riego no es f\u00e1cil: hay muchos factores a tener en cuenta, como el clima de la zona en la que vives, el tipo de suelo o el tama\u00f1o de la maceta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A los geranios no les gusta un suelo completamente seco, pero al mismo tiempo uno excesivamente h\u00famedo podr\u00eda da\u00f1arlos de forma permanente. La capa superior del suelo se seca r\u00e1pidamente, mientras que la m\u00e1s cercana a las ra\u00edces permanece h\u00fameda durante m\u00e1s tiempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Por eso es importante comprobar la humedad del suelo y esto se puede hacer introduciendo una estaca de madera en \u00e9l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Preventing the arrival of the geranium butterfly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    An excellent trick to maintain the health of geraniums is to prune them at the end of winter, to encourage the growth of more stems and, consequently, more flowers. These prunings don\u2019t have to be drastic: just reduce the length of the stems by a few centimeters.
