When they attack our plants, it seems really impossible to get rid of them and they can even lead to the death of our favorite plants.

There are various types of mealybugs, and almost all of them look similar to each other. Below we list the most common types of mealybugs and what types of plants they usually attack.

Mealybug. Also called citrus cotton, its scientific name is Planococcus citri and is one of the most widespread. It is immediately recognizable because of its white color and its cotton-like consistency.

Mealybug of the roots. Unlike the citrus cotton, this variety attacks the roots of plants.

Low mealybug of citrus fruits. It mainly attacks houseplants and fruit trees.

Detecting mealybugs in time is very important, as it allows us to catch the problem in time and take the right steps to solve it.

Mealybugs usually develop and reproduce at great speed, so it is important to check the inner parts of the stems and leaves of our plants often.

Mealybugs are easy to detect with the naked eye, but even a general wilting of the leaves can be a symptom of the presence of mealybugs.

Three effective methods against mealybugs

There are many effective methods to eliminate mealybugs from our plants, both ornamental ones and those on the balcony or in the vegetable garden. Below we list 3 completely natural methods.

Treatments against mealybug. One of the most effective is to mix neem oil with potassium soap. This treatment is very effective, as potassium soap helps keep neem in the water for longer, and neem is a powerful insecticide. The treatment can be done either by watering or with the use of a bottle with a spray diffuser.

Prepare a DIY insecticide against mealybugs. For most types of mealybugs you can use a DIY insecticide. Ingredients: 5 cloves of garlic, 250 ml of alcohol, 250 ml of water, a little liquid biodegradable soap, a bottle with a spray diffuser. Grind and grind the garlic well and mix with the other ingredients in a bottle with a spray diffuser. Spray the natural insecticide on both the plant.

Diatomaceous earth against mealybugs. Spread this product, which consists of a white powder extracted from seaweed fossils, directly on the soil. It is important not to confuse it with diatomaceous earth used for household cleaning, which is toxic to plants and pets.

Share article

Important: This website does not give medical advice, nor does it suggest the use of techniques as a form of treatment for physical problems, for which medical advice is required.
