It is important that the garlic gets enough oxygen. You can also store the bulbs in a wooden box.

Tip 3: Hang by the stem

To keep the garlic for a long time, tie it by the stem and hang it up. Make sure the humidity in the storage place is not too high, as the garlic starts to rot with a humidity above 75 percent. Therefore, a damp basement is not a suitable storage place.

Tip 4: Control air circulation

You can also use a net to store garlic. However, make sure that enough air reaches the garlic. Never put garlic in a plastic bag. A paper bag is best for this.

Tip 5: Put a pot on top

Place the garlic on a plate and cover with a pot. Make sure the pot has a hole in the bottom so air can get in.

Tip 6: Dip them in oil

To make the garlic last longer, you can also immerse it in oil. To do this, peel the garlic, put the cloves in a canning jar with a screw cap, cover them with oil and, eventually, add spices such as rosemary. This way, the garlic will not only keep for a long time, but you will also have a delicious and aromatic oil on hand.

Tip 7: Process the garlic

You can also make garlic paste to preserve it and always have fresh garlic on hand. To do this, first peel a few cloves of garlic and then crush or chop them with a blender. Add salt and oil to the pasta until you get a creamy mixture. Put the mixture in a jar with a screw cap. If you want the pasta to keep for up to 6 months, fill the jars with water up to 2 centimeters below the edge of the lid and place them in a pot.

Our tips tell you the best way to store garlic, because although it is healthy and delicious, you will not necessarily want to eat this vegetable every day.
